Mondays

After a successful and productive (soccer-wise) weekend on the road, winning both our away games; first in Virginia against Hampton then in South Carolina against SC State, we are finally back in the Burg. After a hard weekend on the road, it seems right that we get a well deserved rest. But tragically no matter how tired we are there are still responsibilities to attend to. Of course it is our obligation as student-athletes to put our education before our sport but sometimes, I just wish our day off from soccer wasn’t always a Monday. Monday’s are our “rest-days” but who gets any rests with a day full of classes. A day of half-hearted smiles and tired eyes; the perks of a busy Monday, I’ll sleep well tonight.

8/19 A Night at Corpus Christi

Another shutout, another win; another team added to our list of victims. Beating Corpus Christi A&M 2-0 was satisfying to say the least. And being one of the goal scorers of the night made the victory all that more enjoyable. But as a seasoned collegiate athlete, who is used to playing for most if not all of a match, it gets difficult to wait patiently on the bench. Waiting for the coach to call you, waiting for the opportunity to slay, it isn’t easy, and I suspect it won’t get any easier. What has mattered the most as a substitute player is taking advantage of every sliver of opportunity that is given to you. And that is exactly what I intend on doing; taking every opportunity by the balls/horns and making it mine. Being a bench player has truly humbled me so with that said, here’s another goal for the books of my senior season.
